Allowing Effort for Your Own Care

My clients are the best teachers.
I’ve been in practice for twenty-three years - this month actually. It’s crazy to do that math and think about all the things I’ve learned (and unlearned) along the way. Much of my learning has been obtained by furthering my studies within other disciplines and through professional supervision. However, my clients have been the best teachers.
Early on, my clients taught me that my diet culture thinking wasn’t working for them. Just like a diet, it worked for a while, but not for long. They graciously let me support them as I fumbled my way to becoming a different type of healthcare provider than how I started. I was a weight-centric provider who truly thought I wasn’t handing out diets, just ‘lifestyle changes.’
